US and Silicon Valley visit

Posted on August 7, 2018 Written by KIPadmin

Stephen Krouzecky undertook a whirlwind visit of some major cities on his way back from Toronto and had various meetings with existing and potential US associates and clients in Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, San Jose and Los Angeles.

Of interest was the time he spent in Silicon Valley, helping establish strategic alliances with US IP attorney and IP commercialisation firms, the latter being of interest to our alliance partner KPI Synergies Pty Ltd, which specialises in IP commercialisation strategy. He was able to meet one of our new clients in the Bay area and attend the NXP Connects event in Santa Clara held on 13 and 14 June 2018.

NXP are a global semiconductor manufacturer, which involved Phillips Semiconductor and Freescale Semiconductor. Recently it was the subject of a takeover bid by Qualcomm, but due to problems with the Chinese merger authority, this was effectively cancelled on 26 July 2018.

The event was huge and included presentations on cutting-edge technology in the following areas: automotive including driverless vehicles and integrated services, artificial intelligence, enabling technologies, security and solutions, smart machinery and industrial automation, smart networks and computing, smarter world solutions and multimode connectivity, and emerging trends in innovation.

Stephen was also able to attend a pitch day for Russian start-ups called Global Pitch Russia, staged by Fort Ross Ventures, a venture capital firm connecting US technology start-ups to the Russian market. This was a unique event introducing Russia’s brightest technology start-ups to Silicon Valley investors, where 25 of Russia’s most promising early-stage companies presented 3 to 5 minute pitches to an enthusiastic audience in the categories of virtual reality/augmented reality, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and cloud computing.

Of interest was the distinct lack of intellectual property preparedness of these companies for entering the US market, where Stephen was able to generate great interest in his services, albeit coming from Australia. In fact, we are hoping to pick up some clients from the event to assist them in their IP endeavours.

If you are interested in any of the above and would like more detail, please do not hesitate to contact us as we can offer an extensive amount of information on any of the topics referred to here.

FICPI Australia Elections

Posted on August 7, 2018 Written by KIPadmin

FICPI works on a three-year cycle, and our principal Stephen Krouzecky is up for re-election this year as the current President of FICPI Australia at the forthcoming Special General Meeting of FICPI Australia later this month. We have it on good authority that Stephen is standing unopposed and that he will be continuing for a further three years in the role which he has been performing for the previous three years.

Peter is a past president of FICPI Australia, and as such remains as a non-executive member of Council. The FICPI Australia meeting has an interesting program for IP attorneys in the profession in Australia, most of which has been organised directly by Stephen. He is chairing the important session on IP valuation, which is going to be discussing important initiatives of IP Australia in this area to help clients use their IP rights as security for raising lending finance from the banking sector, which is not prepared to do so at the present time. This is clearly in the best interests of our clients and we wish both Stephen and Peter a successful meeting.

FICPI ExCo and World Congress in Toronto

Posted on August 7, 2018 Written by KIPadmin

Senior representatives of Krouzer IP featured strongly at the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI) Executive Committee Meeting (ExCo) and World Congress staged in Toronto last June. Stephen Krouzecky, a Member of Honour, represented Australia at the ExCo as the head delegate and Peter Huntsman attended in support as a past President of Honour of FICPI.

The ExCo, which is held annually, addressed the main intellectual property issues concerning the free profession of IP attorneys globally and resulted in 12 resolutions being adopted including European intellectual property rights, patent and design law harmonisation, trade mark examination, and ethical and professional rules for virtual IP firms.

It also saw a changing of the guard with our new International President Julian Crump of the UK taking over from our past President Doug Deeth of Canada. Krouzer IP has worked with both Julian and Doug in the past as foreign associates of the firm and we congratulate them both on jobs well done.

Our own Peter Huntsman moderated an important session at the World Congress concerned with recent developments in trying to harmonise the scope of patent-eligible subject matter globally, where nations have been able to set limits on what they considered to be patent-eligible subject matter. This has resulted in some major differences occurring what is able to be patented in one country in contrast to what is able to be patented in another country, especially in the realms of biotechnology and computer implemented inventions.

New Office & Change Of Address

Posted on December 2, 2017 Written by KIPadmin

We are pleased to announce the successful relocation of our office to new and larger premises at the Norwest Business Park in Sydney, following our initial move to Norwest in 2015.

This move was prompted by our continuing growth in both clientele and staff, and with it the need to establish ourselves in the heart of the Norwest services area. As the area’s major infrastructure investment takes shape, we have taken up residence in one of the new ‘smart’ buildings along Lexington Drive. Business growth arising from these developments can already be felt.

The intended introduction of driver-less cars interfaced with the new underground rail link to relieve traffic congestion matches our own enthusiasm for innovative technology. Moreover, future-forward plans for creating a pedestrian-focused mini-city in Norwest, integrated with a new seamless transport system are already underway.

Norwest Business Park is located in the heart of the Hills Area in the North-Western part of Sydney, Australia’s largest, and globally one of the most multicultural cities. Norwest Business Park is strategically positioned between the CBD and the $5.3 billion new Western Sydney Airport for which construction has been approved to commence in 2018. It is also the main hub of the $8.3 billion North West Rail Link, Australia’s largest public transport construction project.
